Funding
Anchor Donation and Granting$1.1 Million
Initial Anchor Donation
The anchor donation is made up of a $1.0 Million endowment fund and a $100,000 flow-through fund.
The endowment fund is a permanent legacy for the community, generating sustainable income for grants year after year, forever.
The companion flow-through fund provides access to funding if an important project appears that needs more immediate investment.
Both funds are held at Toronto Foundation, one of Canada’s largest community foundations. In addition to the South Georgian Bay Innovation Fund, Toronto Foundation is home to more than 500 individual, family, organizational and corporate funds. Over time the fund aspires to become a true community fund, attracting additional partners and financial contributions from local philanthropists and other sources, all who share a collective desire to accelerate positive change in the South Georgian Bay region.
Fund Focus in 2025
Promoting the Nature Based Wellness Vision
The fund’s granting in 2025 will seek out innovative new initiatives focused on nature-based wellness. We continue our partnership with the Escarpment Corridor Alliance and the Collingwood Music Festival. We have emerging relationships with organizations in the areas of youth development, physical and mental health, the environment.
In addition, we are actively sharing the nature-based wellness concept to find others who share our passion and are ready to act on it.
Grant Criteria
Grants will be accepted on a first come first serve basis while funds are available. Please contact us prior to submitting a proposal. We work with grantees in advance to assess proposal fit and minimize workload for both parties.
Grant proposals are evaluated based on criteria including, but not limited to:
- Project description and how it is a start up needing seed capital
- How the project impacts improving the quality of life for people in South Georgian Bay
- What funding is required and how it will be used
- How it is innovative
- How it fits into the nature based wellness graphic
- How the project will be evaluated
- How the project will be sustained in the future
- Who is involved in your project that will lead it to success
Thinking Big
To fully activate the role of Philanthropy, South Georgian Bay will require more Funds like ours!!
Over the next five years, we invite others to create their own funds in their areas of interest. With a goal of building a capital pool of $10 million this ‘philanthropy collective’ will generate sustainable funding for the community, forever.
We may have different charitable interests, but we share a common belief that fostering innovation and working together are powerful drivers for creating transformative change. Philanthropy Invitation
